Social justice to me has changed over the past 4 years drastically. I started thinking you just complain and protest. But slowly I started to see as I got older that it changed and things became more intricate and they changed and made me look and things twice and see what the difference want for standing up to something and to believing and understanding why things are why they are. How things aren’t set in stone, you have the power to change things for the better, better for you and better for the people after you. In class at first I never thought of things like I do now. The teachers become more of mentors that are making sure you see how things are and they give you the knowledge to be able to change the things that are unfair. In class they open your eyes if you are willing to open them. I have changed more in those 4 years than I have most my life. Social justice has made me see things and know that things can be changed for the better.
Difficulties we face are many; a great example is our school slogan, “Born out of struggle, the struggle continues.” – Every proud Social Justice student.
This quote speaks our idea very well, we were all born out of struggle, and the struggle will always continue. We struggle for the justice of everybody in the school, community, state, and even the country. This quote speaks of the struggle we face and we will always face, the struggle that we will always have to face and we will always be up against. But social justice is the mind set for change for the better. The mindset that make us fight for the equality of the people who can’t speak and whose voice is not loud enough to be heard.
We have used many techniques to help us achieve social justice. I have been in walk-outs, sit-ins and even protests. These protests have not only been for us the students, but for the people we care for such as our families, friends, and our teachers.
My role in the struggle for social justice is the participation of the protest and speaking to other people the way the school has shown me to see things and talk about how we can do what we can to help the struggle for the equality we deserve.
My topic is ISIS or The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. It is connected to social justice because it has and is affecting many lives in Iraq and in the United States by taking many lives of innocent people and the lives of our troops.
